Too Late

You know those pieces that you think would look great for an event or for an outfit after it’s happened? That’s what I thought now that Christmas is well passed and I didn’t wear this top. It would’ve been the perfect Christmas top, but now it’s making its appearance as an edgy January look.

A little background of this look, and also the one before. A couple of weeks ago I planned to shoot this look and the look that was posted before this one after church. I had tried on the looks and put them in my car to shoot. Then Mason and I went downtown to shoot and we tried to shoot BOTH looks but they both turned out awful. Ever have those outfits that look good at home and terrible in the outside world? These were those.

I had some flowy pants with this look that ended up just making me look like a clown. I went home and totally changed the look, and this outfit came out to be one of my new favorite outfits. Buuuut, then I realized I probably should’ve tied the fabric behind me. Hey, it’s a new look and I made it my own.

Speaking of this top, I always love an “updated” classic top. I don’t consider myself sexy at all, but the bustier built-into the top gives a sexy and edgy feel to a classic top. Alpha & Omega has been one of my favorite new brands, new to me at least. They do such fun and chic pieces, always looking for my next piece to buy from them.

I threw on my chunky combat boots to add to that rough look and my leather jacket was a no brainer for this look.

Not only has this coat and these heels been a staple in my closet since last year, but all of these pieces have been closet favorites. A classic winter look, is one of my favorite looks to wear. I love how I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit next year, because I feel every piece is timeless but still modern.

Today being Christmas, it really makes me realize how incredible this year has been thanks to all of my amazing readers, and the amazing friends & loved ones in my life! I couldn’t do it without you guys.

Winter 2014-2015 Favorite Pieces

Here in Louisiana, the winter season is starting to come to an end. So to start saying goodbye to the winter season I decided I would round up my most worn pieces of winter.

If you follow my blog regularly I can tell you these pieces aren’t going to come as any surprise to any of you.

1. Ladakh X UO Margot Faux Fur Jacket

12

This faux-fur coat has to be my favorite purchase not just of this winter, but of all time. Whenever I had a super simple outfit on, I would throw this coat on and it added instant glamour and edge to any outfit I paired it with. And it’s super warm!

2. Forever 21 Oversized Blazer

This oversized blazer/coat saved me this winter. It was the perfect addition to pretty much every outfit and it was warm enough for the winter here but wasn’t too heavy. And this blazer is such a classic piece, I can see keeping it in my wardrobe for a while.

3. MICHAEL Michael Kors Medium Selma Houndstooth Print Messenger Bagdetails

This Michael Kors bag, like the coat, has to my favorite bag that I’ve bought in the past couple of years. Right now in my growing bag collection, is the most expensive bag I’ve owned, but it has been worth every penny. I’ve worn it almost every day because the size is perfect but I also love the print.

4. Forever 21 Buckled Faux Leather Crossbody Bag

I loved this bag for the winter, because I liked how the white added a freshness and broke up a dark outfit.

5. Marc by Marc Jacobs boots

Do I need to even say anything about these Marc by Marc Jacobs boots? Late of 2014 I was able to get my hands on those boots for a great price, and everyday when I’m getting dressed I have to force myself to not wear them and show some love to my other shoes.

I’m so happy I get to actually get wear a warm coat and not have to pretend like it’s cold enough to wear it (like I do when I’m back home). I tried to pack minimal for this trip to Kentucky, because I’m only here for a couple of days. So I threw all my favorite things in a bag and called it a day. Turtlenecks are a lifesaver for this cold weather, and this camel/cashew color is great paired with lighter colored items, or with black skinnies and black flats. I also like bringing baggy, boyfriend jeans when I travel, because they’re easy to move around and a great casual jean. I brought these awesome heels because they can really make any look kinda edgy with the spiky ankle straps, and they kind of dress the whole look up.

I also like how the whole look is quite versatile. I can wear this look with the heels to a nice lunch, then I can throw some flats on for a more casual, walking around the town look.

When I travel, I like to stick to the motto “basics are better”. My basics are usually button-downs, jeans, and booties. I wanted to stay with my basics for this trip, but just update them a little. I switched out my usual white button-down for a chambray one, and black jeans for leather leggings. I also had to wear my favorite coat because it’s in the 30’s here in Kentucky and the coat not only adds edginess but also keeps me warm.

Lately, when I look at the temperature for the day and it says 30 something degrees I think that when I’m going to step outside it’s magically going to be 80 degrees. Unfortunately that’s not the case (and shooting by the water doesn’t really help). I always think that winter is a joke in the south, but it’s not playing around this year. So here’s another layered up look. I didn’t want to sacrifice my skirts just for a little cold weather, so I bundled my top half. I love layering with moto jackets because they’re surprisingly warm without me screaming like Randy from A Christmas Story “I can’t put my arms down!”. I also added an incredibly warm faux-fur scarf which adds that chic element to this otherwise simple outfit.
