I guess the weather finally got the memo. I officially allowed myself to start buying sweaters, and this was the first of many I’ll be buying. I didn’t own a gray cable-knit sweater before, and this one was so cozy looking I couldn’t pass it up, also this gray was a must-have color.

I love the cozy and oversized sweater paired with the chic faux-leather trousers and pointed-toe heels. The heels take the look to the next level and make the look polished. This look is perfect for being cozy but still dressed up.

How To: Take Your Summer Pieces into Fall

Every year going from summer into fall, I always feel the need to buy a whole new wardrobe. In this post I’m showing you how I’m taking my favorite summer pieces into fall and giving them new life, so I don’t just forget about them.

The Slinky Tank

Fall

»Layer Underneath: it’s unexpected and adds warmth and coverage.

»Play with Textures: playing with textures adds dimension to keep dark and/or heavy pieces from being too flat.
»Go Dark: switch out your light wash jeans for dark wash. The dark wash adds depth and edge.

»Add Darkness & Layer: This makes the summery top appropriate for the colder months.

»Pair it Up: add a structured bag and classic heels to make the fun top more sophisticated.
»All about Balance: I added a cropped flare pant to balance out the fitted & cropped length top.

Fall

»Classics are Always Best: Classic pieces will always ensure that you look put together and polished and trench adds that fall feel to the look.

»Tuck it: Because flowy tops can be overwhelming when oversized, give the top a little tuck to add shape back into the look.

»Touch of Edge: Faux-leather pants instantly add a rough & tough vibe to any look- especially a flowy and feminine blouse.

Add Coverage: I love the off-the-shoulder trend for summer to show some skin in a feminine way, but for the fall I want to be a little more covered but still incorporate the trend. I added a sleeveless turtleneck under the dress for the coverage but still have that sliver of skin peeking out.

Mix Styles: Adding a faux-leather jacket and boots is unexpected for this girly dress. By doing so it adds a new feel and style to the dress.

Grey Day

This new dress in my closet has surprisingly been one of my favorite pieces I’ve picked up lately. It’s surprising to me because this dress is so simple. But sometimes simplicity is the best when it comes to clothes. The tie-waist accentuates my waist and makes a rather plain dress interesting. Also, let’s talk about the material of this dress which is so so soft. This dress is pretty much glorified sweats in dress form, and I’m sold.

I love this dress paired with a pair of sneakers or a little more dressed up with a heeled boot for the fall. And yes, I’ll be able to wear this dress all through with no jacket, because here in Louisiana the cold weather probably won’t show up until November.

Tee & Stripes

Another look trying to get the the last couple of wears out of my more summer-y pieces. These light weight striped culottes have been a staple in my closet for a while now, and paired with this “beach bound” tee  they polish up the casual tee. And this tee is appropriate since I’ll be heading to my beach vacation in 21 days!

Laced in Stars

Star print has been slowly becoming one of my favorite prints. I’ve been loving the smaller star printed tops lately; it’s a subtle but fun way to do a print!

With the star print, cropped flare, and boots, this look is the perfect mix of vintage trends with a modern spin. Speaking of these boots- I’ve officially declared it okay to start buying boots for myself. I love these creamy nude boots from Public Desire because they can keep a look light through the rest of the summer, but can also be a bright accent in the fall/winter months!

Floral Flare

This new ‘Harper’ dress from London Times is the perfect taste of fall floral!

I love fun florals for fall. Because the color palette is darker and fabrics are heavier in the fall, it’s fun to have a splash of color! I love the dainty feel of this A-line dress to counteract the edginess of the dark colors and my boots.

I also love wearing this dress right now for the “transitional” months with a cute wedge to keep the long-sleeved dress summer-weather appropriate. This dress isn’t heavy even though it’s long-sleeved, so it can easily be worn alone right now or layered under a faux-leather jacket in the fall!
