The Revisited Series: Making the Most of My Clothes | Utilitarian Top

Welcome to my new series I will be doing through the month of April. Let me tell you a little bit about this series:

I was going through my closet a few weeks ago and realized that I hadn’t been giving my more expensive, or favorite pieces as much love. I’ve been blogging for 3 years and I have accumulated some amazing pieces, but sometimes they get lost. Or, I wear it once for a look and forget about it. So, I wanted to re-vamp these classic pieces in my closet and make them coherent with my current style. I also have been wanting to cut back on spending this month, just to see if I could, and I thought by giving my older pieces new life, and discover new ways to wear them, I won’t feel the need to buy (as many) new clothes.

I’m so excited for this series and hope you are too!

The first look is styled with one of my favorite tops from Elizabeth & James that I had bought from Thred Up.  This top always makes me feel way cooler than I am and the shape is so flattering. I’ve worn this top with trousers to kind of dress this edgy piece up and also with a pencil skirt to make it classic. I love how the top is masculine and edgy but is subtly a sexy piece. fullsizeoutput_5295

The gold detailing on the top matches perfectly with my gold watch, choker, and detailing on my bag. It mixes the dark look up a little adds such a chic element to the look.

Heat Wave

This is another look I wore while in Texas! The heat was exceptionally hot. This day we journeyed 10 miles in the 100+ degree heat, I’ve never been so ready lay down in my life.

This jumpsuit did me well for walking downtown and doing a bunch of shopping. I loved the cross strap detailing and I like the fact that I can wear the sleeves off the shoulder or as a halter! And of course, I paired the look with my very worn in sneakers.

And can we talk about these shades?! I had seen a bunch of people with the transparent yellow Acne or Gucci aviators, you know the ones. I loved the style, but didn’t think I could pull them off. I love that these shades are super affordable and I like the unique style with the ombre affect of the blue mixed with the yellow.

Thanks for reading!

Summer Stripes

This tank is a piece that I’ve been dying to wear. I love the stripes on it, but I’m obsessed with the shoulder-bow detailing. I love that the shape is effortless, and can just be thrown on with jeans or shorts.

It helps that the material is light, because I’m dying down here in the Louisiana heat. No matter how long I live here, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it.

I’m taking the plunge to bare my both my pasty legs and arms.

We shot this look last week while in Houston, and all I can say is that if it’s already 100+ degrees and it’s only May, I may have to take a long vacation up north.

I’m not usually a crop top kinda girl. I usually keep with classic fitted tops, and under-exposure of my mid-section. But it’s spring, almost summer, and I’ve been kind of into trying different style lately. Plus, I’ve been feeling really healthy lately, and it makes me proud of all of my hard work I’ve been doing with my body. So I’m not too scared to wear the ever so daunting crop top.

I feel like skin tight high-waisted skinny jeans just don’t look good on me when paired with a crop top. I think it’s because the whole look ends up being super tight, which really isn’t my vibe. That’s why I looove these slouchy, cropped, high-waisted jeans from Forever 21 (they’ve re-stocked sizes!). For being a baggier fit, these jeans still are still fitted and flattering. They’re in my top 3 favorite pair of jeans!

Have a good weekend everyone, and thanks for reading!

Nod to Mod

This black denim skirt is such a chameleon piece. It can be super played down and casual and can be worn edgy with a graphic tee, or adds a mod, sweet feel like in this look.

I can’t get over the beautiful detailing of this blouse, and the billowy sleeves are kind of something I want to get more into.

I also just unboxed these new heels yesterday, and I’ve already planned so many outfits around them. So comfortable, and they of course are nod to mod (and kind of Barbie-ish), which just completes this whole look.

Hope you guys have a great weekend, thanks for stopping by!
